Showdown Special

Showdown Special

The first Showdown of 2018 exceeded expectations with a brilliant contest culminating in an astonishing last gasp goal from the Power that snatched back triumph after the Crows stars Betts, Walker and McGovern had each goaled to grab the lead with a mere 40 seconds to play. Their moment of glory was stunningly reversed by new recruit Steven Motlop who coolly seized his opportunity to goal on the run and send the Port Adelaide home crowd into a frenzy.

Highlights

The game’s amazing conclusion was set up by Port coming back from a half time deficit of 21 points to establish a lead in the third quarter thanks to an inspirational 5 goals from Robbie Gray. His tally for the match was 6 goals and the Showdown medal as best afield. He was more than ably assisted by Paddy Ryder who demonstrated just why quality ruckmen are still so highly prized in the AFL. His decisive tap to Robbie Gray in goal range was among the highlights of a contest that produced an incredible choice of them such as the Crow’s Tex Walker fending off Port’s rising star Bonner to goal and Eddie Betts finding the ball and the goal so quickly he nearly caught the goal umpire by surprise.

Shanghaied

As a sponsor of Port Adelaide, Haneco are thrilled by such a performance. Being a small part of South Australia’s premier sporting event is a source of pride for us and we look forward to the next Showdown with relish. Our best wishes are naturally with Port as they embark on another journey to Shanghai this week to take on the Gold Coast Suns. Another game like the last would certainly win fans in China. Congratulations to the Port Adelaide players who performed with such gusto and flamboyance.
