The Queensland University of Technology, better known as QUT, is a major university in Brisbane. It boasts over 50,000 students on two campuses. The Gardens Point city campus has an industrial design workshop that was doubling as a museum for superseded 400W metal halide lighting.

Real world problem

QUT’s motto is ‘a university for the real world’.   The reality of rising electricity and maintenance costs of the legacy lighting meant the uni was ready to upgrade to LED.  After doing some research the university chose Haneco’s tried and tested SKYPAD LED highbays as replacements.

High lux level without glare

Because the ceilings weren’t all that high, the SKYPADs have polycarbonate diffusers and metal reflectors to reduce glare.    The substantial 21,000 lumen output of the SKYPAD 150W meets the reqiured lux levels on the work planes.

Style and substance

The metal reflectors ensure people aren’t dazzled. Fortunately, the reflectors are in keeping with the style of the old building with its arched windows. You can see how well they light the space while sticking to the industrial style of a practical workshop.
