The second match in Shanghai between Port Adelaide and Gold Coast was not quite the walkover for Port that many had forecast. Gold Coast proved to be stronger opposition than expected and were only 12 points down at half time, but Port Adelaide got the job done to win comfortably by 40 points. Considering that Gold Coast were missing their star forward Tom Lynch, it was a creditable performance by a team struggling to find form and coming off a heavy loss.
Wet conditions meant that all the skills of the game were not on full display with Port missing several shots on goal that would be normally be easy to convert. Sam Powell-Pepper produced the highlight of the game with an unlikely goal kicked over his head while flat on his back.
The open stands of Jiangwan Stadium (renamed Adelaide Arena for the game) made things difficult for spectators. Despite the rain over ten thousand turned up, slightly more than last year. They included Haneco representatives, several fortunate Electrical Contractors and politicians. The federal Trade Minister Steve Ciobo and SA Premier Steven Marshall lent their support to the concept. And there were millions of people watching on TV both in Australia and China.
As a sponsor, Haneco congratulates Port Adelaide on both their performance and the commitment they have shown to the China partnership. The Power clearly find Shanghai to their liking.
