LUME Comes on When the Power Goes Down

LUME fits the new safety standard

The Australian Standard governing emergency lighting (AS2293) is updating what type of battery should power emergency luminaires. Haneco’s LUME Emergency Luminaire anticipates the mandated change to lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries as standard. These batteries are better than Ni-Cd at retaining charge, discharge at maximum power without drop off until fully discharged and recharge more quickly. They are also lighter and non-toxic. Occasionally the lithium ion batteries you find in phones and computers are subject to ‘thermal runaway’ or overheating. This is not possible in the lithium iron phosphate batteries in LUME. You can see why they are the new standard.

Dedicated emergency solution

LUME is a dedicated emergency escape luminaire, which means that it provides safety illumination when the power fails. At other times LUME remains off and keeps its battery in a ‘ready’ state. Emergency lights like this are called non-maintained.  Maintained emergency lights double as ordinary fixtures.  Haneco also has maintained light fittings such as battens and oysters that are used as normal lights within standard lighting plans and have an emergency battery feature that activates only when the power fails.

Lights the way

The non-maintained LUME lights the way at 174 lumens for  two hours before the battery runs out of charge. Under normal powered conditions, LUME has a permanent red ‘battery ready’ indicator. It’s easy to test whether LUME is operating by pushing the test button that shows the lamp is working. It comes with a 1.5m flex and plug for easy installation and is rated IC-4, able to be covered with insulation.
